Loveland: What’s not to like?

Published on May 25th, 2010 by Christian

At SF Beta last week, I had the chance to meet the folks behind Loveland, one of the coolest and most unique groups to ever pass through our doors — and that’s saying a lot.

Loveland is a collaborative “micro real estate” project based in Detroit. For $1, you can buy one square inch of land on a parcel of land that Loveland owns. The inch (or inches) are yours to do with as you will.

To sell inches, they use the popular fundraising site Kickstarter, and the results have been quite a success, with their first parcel completely sold out, and their second making good progress. The more you buy, the more prizes you get, including a Detroit Ice Potato — and who wouldn’t want one of those?

New Demo: Tagwhat

Published on April 27th, 2010 by Christian

Tagwhat is the ultimate convergence of mobile, augmented reality, and location based social services.  It’s “create and share mobile AR” – the world’s first mobile augmented reality creation and distribution system.

What makes Tagwhat different? It’s both on-line and mobile.  With on-line map driven and mobile AR, everyone can create and share, globally, in Tagwhat.  It’s interactive.  Unlike other so-called AR browsers, Tagwhat is a communication system for creating tags to communicate with others.  It’s a personalized global view.  Following others in Tagwhat merges worldwide maps and AR experiences from trusted friends and followers into your own global view that evolves uniquely for you.

Tagwhat is not simply AR as we’ve known it. It’s a new distribution system for sharing the world around you through unique, personalized AR experiences.

We’re pleased to welcome Tagwhat to the next SF Beta.

Visit FoundersSpace for Great Startup Advice

Published on April 20th, 2010 by Christian

I had the pleasure of chatting last week with Steve Hoffman, the founder of FoundersSpace, a new project designed to provide startup founders with free answers to commonly asked questions.

The site provides detailed answers to complex questions, including What is Class F Stock?, What are the tax implications in California between an LLC and a Corporation?, Where can I find a stock plan and equity compensation documents?, and many, many more.

The answers come from prominent investors and advisors, and go into rich detail. We’re proud to promote this valuable new resource, and recommend it to anyone who’s involved in an early-stage venture.

This just in! ServiceLive is joining us as part of our Local & Location demo theme.

ServiceLive is the first online marketplace that allows homeowners and businesses to name their price or request bids for a wide variety of home services, and the list of available services is getting wider every day.  ServiceLive was designed to erase the headaches and hassles of getting services done for both the service buyer and the service pro.

SF Beta emails… Now Powered by MailChimp

Published on April 16th, 2010 by Christian

We’ve switched our mailing list service over to MailChimp, who’s generously comping our account in exchange for promotion on our site.

I’ve used a few different mailing list management services, and MailChimp is the best one I’ve ever used. They have a great feature set, a reliable and thorough service, and one of the best damn UI designs I’ve ever seen.
